The Drum of the Father of Waters
The waves of Lake Baikal, deep and ancient, murmured forgotten secrets. Batou, a Buryat shaman whose clothing was adorned with bells and coloured ribbons, stood on the frozen shore. He struck his ritual drum, the khur, whose resonance mimicked the heartbeat of the Earth. The smoke of wormwood rose toward the twilight sky, forming spirals that danced with the first spirits of the wind. Baikal, the sacred father, answered with a faint shiver across the water — a sign that the ancestors were listening, and that balance had been restored.
